Shofuso is now open for the season and presents tea ceremonies, workshops, Sakura Sunday, Tanabata (conventional Japanese star festival held midsummer), and new this year – Shogi (Japanese chess) Tournament – on the grounds of the Horticulture Center, Lansdowne and Horticultural Drives. Presented by the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia, the festival began in 1998 to honor Japan’s sesquicentennial gift to Philadelphia with the planting of 1,000 cherry bushes in Fairmount Park.
